And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.

We cannot belabour the fact that scripture is a Christo-centric material with only one subject – CHRIST.

Therefore, to study scripture deeply is to encounter Christ everywhere even at the beginning of the narrative being discussed here.

The scriptures say that shepherds lived out in the fields and kept watch over the flocks by night.

Historically, to be a shepherd was a lucrative profession but along the line, it graduated into a job for the worthless in society.

In the same way Christ is the fullness of the Godhead bodily and yet when he took upon himself humanity, we found no beauty in Him.

Shepherds risk their lives daily to ensure that they protect and account for the lives of their flock.

No wonder in John 10, Christ likened himself to the shepherd indicating that He is the good shepherd and his sheep hears his voice.

It therefore came as no surprise that the Shepherd of men appeared to the shepherd of flocks to announce his coming and to authenticate his assignment of watching over the souls of mankind.

Beloved, all we like sheep have gone astray, each one to his own separate way until Christ, the true shepherd found us and returned us to our pens.

For He who watches over our souls neither sleeps nor slumber and now remains seated at the right hand of the Father making intercessions for us.

Beloved, who watches over your soul? CHRIST, the true shepherd beckons. Selah

Shepherd of my soul
I give you full control
Where ever you may lead
I will follow
I have made a choice to listen for your voice
Where ever you may lead
I will go
