Romans 8:35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
I was profoundly challenged and jerked up in my walk of faith as I listened to this awe-inspiring story by Professor Allison Howell.
Professor Howell shared this story of Bukari, a one-armed Kasena christian, who despite his condition, was so alive in his faith and fully refreshed in his deep awareness of Christ in him.
Bukari had had an accident a few years back and had his right arm amputated in order to save his life.
One day as Professor Howell interacted with Bukari in his home, another one armed man came begging for alms and there Bukari cheerfully told the beggar “I have one arm too but I have Jesus” and shared the gospel with the beggar.
It is interesting to note that though gone to be with the Lord, Bukari played a significant role in helping to ground The Church of Pentecost among the kasenas in the North.
Beloved, Bukari’s story agrees with our passage for this morning as Apostle Paul asks, what or who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Is it tribulation, distress, affliction, famine, nakedness and the like?
Bukari was physically challenged but allowed his full revelation of Christ to consume his soul.
Though with such a limitation, Bukari was able to always ride his bicycle to church with his left hand cheerfully and joyfully.
Beloved, what are you going through? What is pinning you down? Do you feel like giving up?
Connect to the love of Christ. It is so deep, so wide and so high.
Be swallowed up in his steadfast love for they are renewed every morning.
For as far from danger as from fear, while love Almighty love is near.
You may be limping from the scars of life but may the walking stick of His love support you every step of the way.
Don’t forget in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us for though our outward man perishes, our inward man is renewed day by day.
For your one-armed condition with Christ is more than enough.
Enjoy your weekend
