Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD.
Beloved, so far in building our discourse, we’ve been able to agree that setting out to salvation begins with repentance and progress into belief in Jesus Christ.
For the message of the gospel is the power of God unto salvation.
What is the gospel? That Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, he was buried, raised and revealed himself to many men, ascended and seated at the right hand of the Father and is coming again to judge the world.
In elevating the discourse further, our passage for this morning notes that we are saved by grace for it is the gift of God.
In other words, the work of salvation has been and is essentially the work of God through Christ.
And we can trace this from the garden of Eden when man after sinning tried using fig leaves for a covering.
The scriptures says God himself made tunics of skin to cloth them (Gen 3:21)
That was a typology of Christ showing us that there is nothing that man can do on his own to merit God’s salvation.
No wonder by revelation, Paul affirms this truth by noting IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD.
The bible did not say it is a gift meaning it could be among the many gifts but THE GIFT, which implies it is the primus.
Hence if there is any gift which God offers and considers fundamental, it is THE GIFT OF GRACE.
Beloved, let us settle in our hearts that we are what we are because of the gift.
We cannot boast in any thing because we received the gift for they which received abundance of grace and of THE GIFT of righteousness shall reign in life.
We were dead until the gift was released.
We have been made alive by the agency of the gift
We were objects of wrath but when the gift appeared, we’ve become emblems of mercy.
For it is not him that willeth, neither him that runneth but it is God who showeth mercy.
Beloved, let us awaken to the consciousness that indeed, we did nothing to obtain salvation.
It is the gift of God for God demonstrated his love towards us in that whiles we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
What then must we do? Receive the gift by faith and step into your heritage. Selah
