John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
We continue our special series entitled “Settling Controversies”
We established yesterday that it is important to get the fundamentals right so we can build on from there.
We thus indicated that the journey of salvation begins with a conviction in a man’s soul leading to repentance.
Progressing from there, a man ought to respond by believing.
A careful look at the bible shows that time and time again, the response to the gospel is to believe.
To believe means more than simply agreeing in our mind that something might be true.
It means trust and strong reliance in God and a willingness to commit our lives to Him and to live for Him completely.
Our passage says “that whosoever believes in Him”
It means the offer is for “whosoever”, a category anybody can fall in.
The rich, poor, fair, dark, tall, short, slave, free, Jews, gentile.
Beloved, it does not require any complicated action – only believe.
To believe is not just a mental acknowledgement but a deeper sense in appreciating Christ as the infinitely valuable Son of God.
To believe is the acknowledging of our helplessness and willingness to yield completely to Christ.
To believe is to receive Jesus Christ, accept Him and settle for Him as Lord and Saviour.
Have you believed in Christ? Have you committed your life to Him? Have you received Him? Have you submitted to His Lordship?
Then we can state unequivocally that YOU ARE SAVED(Acts 16:31, Mk 16:16, John 1:12, John 3:18, John 5:24, John 6:47)
Listen, beloved, until we settle in our spirits concerning our assurance of salvation, we cannot progress effectively the ladder of our Christian growth.
Therefore let’s get assured that if we have entrusted our lives by believing in Jesus then nothing can and should snatch us from His hand(John 10:29)
I know you have questions but let’s progress gradually, don’t forget we are trying to settle controversies.
