Matthew 26:36-37
Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray…..then he began being sorrowful and troubled (NIV).
Today is Good Friday, the church and believers will have the privilege to recount and reflect on the greatest sacrifice which brought life and immortality to light, as we celebrate Easter.
Over 2000 years, the world witnessed the greatest sacrifice of all time, when divinity clothed himself with humanity to become a man of sorrows accounted with grief.
But it all started in the garden of Gethsemane.
Gethsemane, a place where wine is pressed is where the Lord of glory was pressed as the reality of the gruesome death came face to face with him.
No wonder the writer of Hebrews said during the days of his flesh, Jesus offered prayers and loud cries to him who is able to save him (Heb. 5:7)
Gethsemane was a place of agony and anguish. At Gethsemane, the Father and the son had to go back to the negotiating table again.
It was the place of surrendering completely to the Father’s will. It was a place of brokenness.
The battle of Calvary had to be won at barracks of Gethsemane first
No wonder his very sweat drops were like blood.
If Jesus had not prevailed in Gethsemane, he would have lost out at Calvary.
At Gethsemane, Jesus traded off his will for the Father’s purpose…it was there he made himself of no repute and became obedient even unto death.
Until we are submerged in the valley of Gethsemane, we cannot be enthroned on the seat of exaltation.
This morning, come to Gethsemane and allow the Father to break your egos, will, interests, passions in exchange for his perfect purpose.
The soup of Gethsemane may be bitter but it offers an incomparable great sweet after meal.
Beloved, Gethsemane beckons…..SELAH
