Act 28:3-5
Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. But Paul SHOOK the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.
Paul’s life was a vivid demonstration of a man who lived by the revelation of the fullness of Christ in him.
He was so conscious of this revelation that the entirety of his being responded to it.
At this stage of his life, Paul a prisoner of the gospel, was on his way to Rome to defend his faith.
God had revealed to him that the journey was going to be a terrible one but none of the travellers would perish.
Eventually, they found safety on the Island of Malta but as Paul tried to gather a pile of wood for warmth, a viper fastened itself on his hand but he SHOOK it off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. Halleluya
Beloved, daily, we encounter life threatening and dangerous experiences.
The vipers of destruction lurk around us as we try to gather woods of destiny.
But like Paul, may we awaken to the reality of who we are in Christ to overcome these dangers.
Paul was walking in the revelation of Christ who said”we shall take up snakes and scorpions and they shall not hurt us”.
Paul was conscious that greater is He who lives in him than he that is in the world.
He knew that every trappings of the enemy shall be broken and he shall escape unhurt.
This consciousness was strong enough to shake off the viper.
Listen, beloved, you carry so much power. You are endowed. You are a mystery and you are a phenomenon.
You are so insulated against every kind of venomous beast.
Therefore in the name of Jesus Christ in you, shake off that discouragement, shake off that struggle, shake off that mentality, shake off that affliction, shake off that threats, shake off that discomfort and shake off that fear.
You shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord.
As you step out, be alert for any viper of distraction and when it wraps around your hand of progress.
You know what to do – SHAKE IT OFF.
