Nehemiah 1:5
Then I said: “O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands,
Nehemiah begins his prayer of petition and supplication by touching a very critical component of the divine agreement – God’s covenant of love.
Nehemiah understood that God chose Israel out of his bountiful grace and established a covenant based on his love.
Israel were not chosen by effort or merit but by the demonstration of supernatural love of God.
For God is love and He loves with an everlasting love.
Suffice to say, beloved, that this covenant of God’s love is even more strengthened in Christ who is the embodiment of the Father’s love.
For God demonstrated his love towards us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
It is refreshing to note that by the agency of this covenant of God’s love, we have passed from death to life.
For love’s sake, we who were once not a people have become a people.
And the amazing thing is that God remains faithful to this covenant even when we are unfaithful.
That is why in God’s love, we are not consumed in our iniquity but his love pumps the water of grace to erase them all.
Let us be mindful of what God has set out for us through the instrumentality of his overwhelming love and take advantage of this covenant.
O Lord, please sustain covenant of love continually on us each day we pray. Selah
